Meet at Combe, the Cock Inn, village green. Please park considerately nearby. A circular walk leading westwards into the Evenlode Valley, passing North Leigh Roman Villa, recrossing the river and joining the Oxfordshire Way along the course of Akeman Street, an ancient Roman road. We then explore some of Blenheim Park with fine views of the palace and lake, before returning to Combe. This walk is taken from ‘The Oxfordshire Way’ by Nick Moon (2019 edition). Meet at Cholsey, St. Mary’s Church car park. From the village follow Church Road, over railway bridge, church on left. A fairly level circular walk across open fields, a gently rising track around Lollington Hill with fine views and on to Aston Tirrold before returning to Cholsey across drained fen land. On to Quarry Wood and Winter Wood with panoramic views of the River Thames, returning to Cookham walking alongside the river. Walking on road through the village. Some gentle walking uphill at the start with some minor road walking. Taking in the village pf Farnborough where John Betjeman once lived with his family in the Old Rectory.
